"The Garden of Complaints" exhibition opens in Paris on March 14, 2019

Presented at the Cyril Guernieri gallery in November / December 2018, the exhibition "De l'Intérieur" by Mehmet Güleryüz was hailed by the press as a revelation. Regarded as one of the greatest contemporary Turkish artists, Mehmet Güleryüz had, indeed, not exhibited in France since the 80s. The young Paris gallery now offers us to discover his drawings with the exhibition "The Garden of Complaints", that will be presented from March 14 to April 6. And it is, without a doubt, a new revelation!
At the age of 80, Mehmet Güleryüz continues his work in which painting and drawing are of equal importance. But these are, as he explains, different adventures, and one is struck by the originality and autonomy of his work on paper compared to his paintings. If it is in the same spirit of improvisation and in the energy of the struggle that his compositions arise, the incessant battle that Mehmet Güleryüz leads with the representation is no longer expressed in solely in the treatment of the subject, but also through the energy of the line. And this instinctive trait carries with it all the experience, intelligence, and sensitivity of the Turkish master, who never ceases to amaze us with the infinite variety of forms to which he gives life.
